Microsoft And Yahoo! Make Web Searches Easier For Internet Explorer 3.0 Users

MICROSOFT AND YAHOO! MAKE WEB SEARCHES EASIER FOR INTERNET EXPLORER 3.0 USERSRedmond, WA -- August 13, 1996 -- Microsoft Corporation and Yahoo! Inc. announced today that they are working together to make searching the Web easier for Internet Explorer 3.0 users.. As part of this agreement, Yahoo! will be the default provider of Web site search results for Microsoft's new Autosearch feature available in Internet Explorer 3.0, and will distribute a customized Yahoo! version of the browser on its main site (www.yahoo.com). The new Internet Explorer 3.0 was released at 12:00 a.m today.

With IE 3's new Autosearch feature, users will be able to type in a search word directly on the address line and will in turn receive a page of relevant Yahoo! search results from Yahoo!'s comprehensive directory of Web site listings. The search results page will also direct users to Yahoo!'s main site.

Yahoo! will also distribute a custom, client version of Internet Explorer on its main site. Customers who download Internet Explorer 3.0 from the Yahoo! site will be offered IE 3 pre-configured with Yahoo! as the default home page.

Direct access to Yahoo!'s main site will also be available via Find it Fast on the Internet Explorer home page (www.home.microsoft.com). The Yahoo! search capabilities and direct links will be integrated into all Internet Explorer 3.0 retail and online versions.
