YAHOO! LAUNCHES INBOX DIRECT SERVICE TO USERSSANTA CLARA, CA -- October 2, 1996 -- Yahoo! today announced that it will begin using Netscape's Inbox Directâ„¢ service to deliver popular Yahoo! programming via email as soon as it's published. Inbox Direct delivers frequently updated web features, such as Yahoo!'s Picks of the Week, Yahoo! of the Day, and personalized "My Yahoo!" news summaries, to Netscape Navigatorâ„¢ users.

"Yahoo! is constantly striving to enhance the user experience with new services and technologies," said Jeff Mallett, senior vice president of business operations at Yahoo!. "The Inbox Direct service provides a proactive way to deliver Yahoo!'s unique programming in a dynamic and convenient fashion."

"Like Netscape, Yahoo! has always been at the forefront of the Internet industry, and Yahoo! is a natural for Inbox Direct," said Bob Lisbonne, vice president of client product marketing at Netscape. "With the new service, Yahoo! users can get the web pages they requested delivered right to their mailboxes as soon as they become available."

Yahoo! is launching the Inbox Direct service with its Picks of the Week feature and My Yahoo! News Summaries. Both have established a loyal following and hundreds of thousands of people visit or receive Picks of the Week. Inbox Direct retains all graphical aspects and links of web pages, which provides a more interactive experience for the user than text-only e-mail. In addition, the InBox service will allow Yahoo! advertisers to reach targeted audiences in an innovative, compelling fashion. Yahoo! also plans to begin the Inbox Direct service for viewers of its Net Events and Yahoo! of the Day features in the upcoming weeks.
