Yahooligans!, The No. 1 Web Guide For Kids, Adds New Features

YAHOOLIGANS!, THE NO. 1 WEB GUIDE FOR KIDS, ADDS NEW FEATURESSANTA CLARA, Calif. -- September 22, 1997 -- Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ: YHOO) today announced the addition of new features to Yahooligans!® (www.yahooligans.com), Yahoo!'s Web site for kids ages 7 - 12. Starting today, Yahooligans! users can stay in touch with what's happening in the world and on the Web with news written by kids for kids, fun online activities, cool featured Web sites and sports information. In addition, Yahooligans! offers CommTouch's unique, e-mail software package for kids to communicate with friends and family.

New Yahooligans! features include:

  • News - Working with Reuters and national children's news weekly, Tomorrow's Morning, Yahooligans! now features the daily "News Beat", highlighting news stories about current events, relevant issues and life around the world - including stories written by kids for kids. The stories include photos, when available, and biographies of the reporters.
  • Sports - The new Yahooligans! Sports Page combines the sports scores, team standings, player stats and news from Yahoo! Sports with the Sports Illustrated For Kids site providing fantasy sports leagues, shockwave games, comprehensive sports previews and kid-tailored sports news that is updated three times a week. The link to SI For Kids will also provide children with a look at the award-winning magazine's monthly features on superstar athletes.
  • E-mail - Yahooligans! is working with CommTouch Software Inc. to offer ProntoMail/Family Edition - an e-mail software package with multimedia capabilities such as voice, video and greeting cards. The free software combines kids' content with e-mail capabilities and offers a choice of interfaces for both adults and children, along with multiple mailboxes on a single dial-up account, parental monitoring tools and easy-to-use multimedia features for sending mail with pictures, sound and animation.
  • The Headbone Derby - Created by Headbone Interactive, the Derby is a year-round series of Internet research contests that teaches children how to find information online. Kids follow a lively comic strip story in seven episodes, solving puzzles by researching topics on the Web. Prizes include a computer, digital cameras, and Headbone software.
  • Hypersite of the Week - Yahooligans! spotlights one cool Web site a week as chosen by Yahoo!'s team of Web experts. The Hypersite of the Week is also highlighted on the Aahs World RadioSM network of kids' radio stations. A script prepared by the Yahooligans! editorial staff for the Hypersite can be heard on Aahs World Radio at least four times a week throughout the country.
